Abstract
This study aims to identify the optimal direction for college English courses catering to the digital native generation. A survey was conducted among 208 college students, focusing on their use of digital technologies for learning English and their preferences for future university general English courses. The results showed that the majority of students frequently utilize digital technology for English language learning and perceive it as an effective approach. Additionally, it was found that female students used digital devices more actively when learning English. When considering whether reading English texts on digital devices or in books is better, the ‘moderate’ option received the highest ranking. Regarding future general English classes, many students expressed a desire to increase video materials utilization in the classroom and emphasized the importance of ease in language learning. This study proposes five key directions, emphasizing the incorporation of digital technology and digital content in English education for the digital age. These findings serve as valuable reference materials for designing and implementing college English courses tailored to the digital native generation of students.
