This study explores the English learning experiences of two college students majoring in sports-related fields through a narrative inquiry approach. Both students had previously taken the researcher’s College English classes. The study focuses on their experiences before and after entering university and the meanings they ascribe to those experiences. Analysis was conducted using the “three-dimensional narrative inquiry space” framework proposed by Clandinin and Connelly (2000), which considers temporality, sociality, and place. The narratives span the participants’ experiences from elementary school to university. Findings reveal that both students, who were student-athletes before entering university, had limited exposure to English instruction due to the demands of balancing sports and academics. However, after entering university, they strongly recognized the necessity and importance of learning English. These results underscore the need for further research into customized English learning programs and motivational strategies for students in sports-related majors.
