Abstract
This paper suggests that the speaker meaning inference process during the communication process between the speaker and the listener is explained using Sperber & Wilson's relevance theory, one of the influential pragmatic theories. This process is revealed by examining the context that includes the representative future expressions will and be going to. To adequately explain this process, this paper examines previous studies on the subject of future expressions in English, a comparative analysis of the meanings of will and be going to, and the basic working principle of the theory of relevance. Finally, through the theory of relevance, by analyzing the context in which these two expressions are used, we will suggest the core and speaker meanings of will and be going to through the natural cognitive process of humans that enables appropriate communication.
