The purposes of this study are to investigate study-abroad experiences and its efficacy from an overseas English program for Korean EFL learners. Forty college students participated in the study-abroad program, an interaction-based language program, at a comprehensive university in the Philippines in January 2017. In order to examine the degree of changes in the students’ language skills development and their perceptions of the program, data were collected through pre- and post-tests of students’ speaking and writing skills, survey questionnaires and follow-up written interviews after the period. The SPSS 18.0 was used for data analysis. The results of the study indicated that both students’ speaking and writing skills were significantly improved, their perception of the program was viewed positively, and their confidence in using English and cross-cultural understanding was improved immensely after four weeks. Further follow-up studies are needed in order to develop the more effective study-abroad programs for Korean EFL learners in the future.
