Abstract
Lexical signs of sign languages have drawn great attention from researchers because they show much more iconicity than spoken languages. However, only a few researchers pay attention to whether the same iconicity is observed in the components of lexical words, such as handshape, location, movement, and orientation. In order to fill the gap, this paper examines all the lexical words expressed in the location of the neck in Korean Sign Language, and explores the meaning relatedness of those words. The result shows that the words show strong meaning relatedness and the meaning relatedness can be explained by conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy, confirming iconicity in the lower level of lexical words in sign languages.
