Abstract
This study explores the effectiveness of a genre-based approach in enhancing teaching methods for Oral Proficiency Interview-computer (OPIc) speaking tasks. Traditional methods often emphasize rote memorization, limiting authentic communication. By categorizing OPIc speaking tasks into genres such as personal narratives, descriptive tasks, comparative analyses, and situational role-plays, educators can provide more targeted instruction that aligns with the specific requirements of each type of speaking tasks. This approach helps learners organize their responses more effectively and enhances their ability to use language purposefully and contextually. This method emphasizes understanding communicative purposes, structural elements, and linguistic features, which fosters deeper engagement and flexibility in language use. Furthermore, the genre-based approach facilitates a deeper engagement with the material, as learners are encouraged to think critically about the function and context of their language use. This method moves beyond the superficial memorization of responses, fostering a more profound and flexible understanding of language.
